Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. You may have already been approached to take part in the study, or alternatively you may have heard about the study and would like more information into what we do. You are therefore welcome to download our Patient Information Leaflet. If you should want any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us – details of which can be found on the ‘Contact’ page.
If you have previously had a PPH and have strong feelings on how the situation was managed, positive or negative, we would be interested to hear from you. Unfortunately you would not become part of the study, as it was a past episode, but your views are very welcome.
Currently, we are approaching women who have recently had a baby at either St Thomas’ Hospital, London or Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup. The first thing we will do is ask your permission to explain about the study, and hand you our Patient Information Leaflet to take away and read. If you agree, we will then discuss with you when would be best to come and see you again (at a location convenient to you, i.e. Your home) for an interview. We will only conduct the interview if we have your full consent, and an example of the consent form can be downloaded below. The research interview should not last longer than an hour and will be unstructured and informal. We would like to hear about your experience of PPH – how you felt it was managed, how you would improve things etc. The interview will be carried out by a research midwife, who is trained in dealing with sensitive issues, however as we are not part of your care team we cannot comment on the care you received, but we will refer you to an appropriate professional should you wish us to do so. All information you provide is confidential, and you will not be identified in the research. The interview will be recorded (with your permission), so the results we take away are an accurate representation of how you felt.
The results we gain from your perspectives will help to create a training package for staff involved in childbirth, so to improve the situation for women across the country. We are not looking for any particular opinion – all your thoughts are important to us and will help to shape the future of maternity care surrounding the important issue of blood loss after birth. Thank you.
