Overview:
TACIT is a large clinical trial taking place at approximately 36 sites throughout England. It is co-ordinated by the Academic Rheumatology Department at King’s College London under the direction of Professor David Scott, Chief Investigator. TACIT is sponsored by King’s College London and is funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment programme (NIHR HTA) with additional support from the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN).
Our Goal:
This 3 year, open labeled, pragmatic, randomised controlled trial will test the hypothesis that Rheumatoid Arthritis patients (RA) with active disease, who meet the NICE criteria for receiving Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF)-inhibitors will gain equal benefit from intensive combination therapy with Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs; 2 or more DMARDs and steroids). Eligible patients will be randomly assigned to receive either TNF-inhibitors or combination DMARDs. Each patient’s response to treatment will be monitored at regular intervals using a number of approved data collection questionnaires, standard joint assessment and by looking at x-rays of their hands and feet. For more information on the design of the trial please refer to the ‘About’ section of this website.
